(8th SDEEP Devlog) Dialog Rework (Back-End Week)


What a rough week.

(Rant incoming)

Two weeks later I'm still wrestling with steam. They like to wait the full 3 days every time they find something wrong with my store page. First "Too much cleavage in the store art" then "You should be saying 'I plan to' not 'I will' in the early access answers." BOOM that's one week.

This time they decided they wanted an early access build in order to confirm the store page. 😩 I'm not even going to try to release a demo over there since it goes through the same process.

What I'm trying to say is the Steam page will be available Soon™️.

Enough ranting.

--- Devlog ---

Unfortunately all of the stuff I did this week is back end work. One thing that might be interesting is the dialog rework experiment. Since I don't have much use for the animator I decided to try it as a dialog tree instead. In terms of coding this makes things cleaner and easier to map out visually. Here's a before and after of the Marco-Polo conversation for anyone who may be interested:

This system is going to allow me to specify different texts for "You" and "Her" for different languages.

Also in the bottom left I made a bunch of action blocks so I can throw sounds and actions into the texts. The old version had a prototype of this but the new version is much more modular for these additions making it much more easy to test without having to replay the game so much (The animator not ONLY doesn't require recompiling on change, but it ALSO saves all changes I make during playtime as well). This is going to add some sound to future H-Scenes.

Also I have a channel reserved for my future road map in the discord (https://discord.gg/bvdUTeh93a) called dev-notes. Most likely it will be months before I actually use it for that so in the mean time members of my discord suggested I could start compiling all the important parts from my devlogs' info about the game into this channel. I think that's a great idea so I'll start doing that in my free time.

If I can help it, this coming week will be a heavy art week.
