(3rd SDEEP Devlog) Demo Released!

So... demo is out for PC and mac on the main page!

- 3 images are available in the demo, one is "technically" hidden, or at least its conditions are unique. More info on that in text document I included with the download file in case anyone needs clarification on how to get the images.

Your character will explain some mechanics, and will take the role of the tutorial giver in future missions as well.

Updates:

The demo is a bit rushed on the polish side. I ran into a few snags with some things, specifically the post processing, so I took some of it out for now, at least until I get a more consistent style with it. This is about how much I have currently marked off in the demo version.

  • Need a ton of half water sprites and such for better looking floors
  • Radar effect when discovering new items
  • Small particle alert when you gain the option to click Y/N
  • Several post processing screen overlay effects (Small amount of fisheye, film grain, CA)
  • Better chromatic aberration on the UI
  • Some water effects maybe when she swims
  • Throwing in some more sound to get random variation on each use.
  • Filling up the ground with a bunch of slight tile variations for variety
  • Still deciding on many of the symbols and UI
  • + A few general low chance ambient sounds

I'm releasing the demo now since its gameplay is ready, but I'm going to give some of the polish another week before adding it in.

In other words a small visual update will come out next week before I continue on with the content.

Also up to the last hour I've been squashing all the major bugs, there are still a few to watch for:

- Stacking text on rapid interactions.

- Certain things not properly resetting on second playthrough.

- When waiting on a text interaction, interacting with it again can destroy it.

Let me know if you find any other bugs, I'll get these fixed by the next version. 👍

So I am reading through the word doc and I see the bug listed but is it even possible to get pregnant atm in the game or is it very roundabout ?

Not possible at the moment, there's only 3 images in the demo, but there will be something like that in the full version. Is there something misleading somewhere that I should change?

no never mind I think I know what happened different question what is the 3 images or least hints ?

1. Taking a photo during mushroom picking

2. Getting stuck in the door

3. Taking a photo while idle on land

(also a photo while idle in deep water but I don't count that one)

Pretty cool and unique game, I pre-ordered. I also found a bug where if you don't answer salvor initially about the marco polo thing, and instead just run straight to the crack in the wall where she gets stuck, the event seems to "resolve" itself without any option to interact with the wall event at all. This might occur with other events but I haven't tested it yet, otherwise fun game! I like the bantery feel between salvor and dispatch, and cant wait to play the full version when its released.

Appreciate it, and glad you like the banter! I'll look into the early resolve problem too, that's definitely something I need to get patched out asap.

to check, her walking, picking mushrooms, and getting stuck are the only images right? or am I missing one?

Correct, once I get a gallery in it will be much easier to keep track of them too

Dope thanks

Demo is nice. Did notice on the second play that the doors didn't want to open. Could have been on my end only, and I haven't been able to get it to occur again afterwards.

Glad you enjoyed, I'll have a look into the doors thing as well too

The demo looks incredibly promising. I played through it twice just to see all the available conversations.

I'm assuming you can go into maps with pre bought equipment or saving equipment left over from prior maps.

I also love how you have different textured floors. And i assume each floor texture also provides a different sound volume when walking over them.

Oh man this game is going to be so fun. I'm really excited for it!

Glad you like it! Yea you'll be keeping your equipment and food levels (and some other things) between each map.

As for the floors there's going to be deep water for swimming, certain floors will have particle effects, stuff like that. I like that volume idea too, I could put that in for when she starts entering the inhabited areas.

Thanks for your continued support!

so will the maps always be pre-generated, or will there be some randomness in the runs?

Currently the idea is to have the first playthrough of each level on the early levels to have the same loot per level just to allow players to build up supplies easily. If you replay the levels then the loot will be randomized.

Then on the later levels all loot will always be randomized even on the first playthrough, so if you don't bring enough equipment into a large level for example, then you may not find enough equipment to get through the optional doors.

oooooh okay, that sounds amazing! yeah after doing the tutorial level a couple times just to make sure i saw everything i was hoping there would be some level of randomness in the game and im glad its being done like this

just player through the demo, super promising and cannot wait for the next update! GL and don't burn yourself out!

Thanks! Yea I'm going to start pacing myself from this point on lol.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hey, I preordered the game but the demo isn't available to download without ANOTHER purchase. I assume this is a mistake of some kind?

Edit: Nevermind, the demo is just not available on this page, m'bad

Good catch, I might as well hide those on this page if itch only allows downloads on the main page anyway.
